I need to find somewhere to stay during my out of state clinical rotations. They are only 9 weeks long, so a 6 month lease is not an option. I'm a poor grad student, so the cheaper the better!

Hi, I'm looking for a long term (4 weeks) hotel for my girlfriend in downtown San Francisco or nearby areas. She's going to the Academy of Art and needs to stay in a hotel until her lease starts.
Does anyone know of a good, safe hotel that is not too expensive in or by Downtown? Preferrably, I'd like it to be with some sort of security because my girlfriend would be alone. I'm looking to spend up to $400-$500 a week and don't want to do the Craigslist thing.

looking to stay at a hotel as temporary housing for a month in Santa Monica, CA. I was wondering if hotels in the area gave discounts for booking a room for an entire month.
